Engler, Frederick W. (Fritz), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father and grandfather passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 92 years. The son of the late Johann and Louise (Zabell) Engler, Fred was born May 3, 1921 in Danzig, Germany and raised by his mother and step-father, Louise Engler and Phillip Neesz. He married Marjorie Dufty in1947. She predeceased him in 1973. Fred then married Beatrice (Beatie) Hunter on May 17, 1975. She predeceased him November 22, 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the USS Stanly DD478 in the Southern Pacific and was a member of the Little Beavers Squadron, American Legion Post #439, V.F.W. Post and the Tin Can Sailors. Fred was employed as an electrician at Rudyís Electric in Bad Axe, Michigan and then General Motors until his retirement in 1980. He was a past member of Hopevale Church where he served as an usher and later attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Fred enjoyed gardening and tending to his roses. Most of all, he loved helping others and spending time with his family. Surviving are three sons, one daughter and their spouses, Michael and Peggy Engler, Merrill; Lawrence and Turi Engler, Camarillo, California; Lynn and Gary Kurzhals, Jackson; Phillip and Jan Engler, Saginaw; Fredís grandchildren, Mandy (Rob) Helveston, Alicia Engler, Salem (Kristen) Engler, Tristan (Jackie) Engler, John (Michelle) Kurzhals, Stephanie (Fred) Thomas, Peter (Rachel) Hull, Aaron, Dustin and Cody Engler, Beth (John) Klass, Jeff (Ruthie) Shemanski, Christina Bordonaro, Michael (Alysa) Bordonaro; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Anita Pagels, Irna Ritter, Otto and Robert Engler. Fredís family extends their gratitude and appreciation to HealthSource Saginaw for their loving and compassionate care. Funeral service will take place on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland, Michigan where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
