Ebell, Herbert O., Athens, Georgia

Passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Age 86 years. A native of Garz, Germany, he was the son of the late Karl Alfred Otto Ebell and Klara Anna Stutzriem Ebell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hildegard Cardaun Ebell in 2013 and grandson, Lukas Willem Bierema Ebell in 2002. Mr. Ebell emigrated from Germany shortly after his marriage to Hildegard in 1957. They initially lived in Canada, and moved to the United States in 1965. While in Germany he received his Master’s degree from the Humboldt University in Berlin. He spent his career working in the sugar industry, and retired as Director of Operations and Vice President for Michigan Sugar Company. He enjoyed reading, travel, sports, spirited political debate, and spending time with his family. Herbert was a devoted husband and toward the end of her life, a loving caretaker of his wife Hildegard. Survivors include his children Mark Ebell of Athens and Monique Ebell of London, England; his grandchildren Anna and Noa Ebell; and Mark’s wife Laura Bierema and Monique’s fiancé David Hirsh. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan.
