Duve, Gale (Mercer), Saginaw, Michigan


Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Covenant Healthcare Cooper. Age 80 years. The daughter of the late Charles Mercer and Sophia (Shepard) Mercer, Gale was born January 22, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan. She graduated in 1952 from T.L. Handy High School and studied for one year at Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing. Gale married Otto W. Duve, Sr., her loving husband of 61 years, on August 26, 1953. He survives her. She was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 30 years until her retirement August 31, 1994. Gale was a member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Freeland, Michigan. She attended Sherwood warm water aerobics class weekly for many years. Gale love and enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren. Surviving besides her beloved husband Otto are two sons and one daughter, Rick Duve; Otto (Jacalyn) Duve II; Tina Duve; grandchildren, Aaron Duve, Eric Duve, Johnny Kokes, Kyle Kosnik, Stephanie (Jeremy) Smith; great-grandchildren, Abigail Smith, Jeremy Smith II and William Smith; brothers, Terry (Jan) Mercer and Rex Michael Mercer; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, 6185 N. Hospital Road, Freeland, Michigan. The Rev. Spencer Biga will officiate with burial in St. Matthew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
