Carey, Elaine M., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Monday, June 9, 2014. Age 96 years. Elaine Marguerite Courtland was born December 28, 1917 in Saginaw to the late Dennis and Blanche (Duprey) Courtland. She married Clarence Carey June 21, 1935, and their marriage was blessed with two sons, Larry C. Carey and Terry D. Carey, who are deceased. Clarence predeceased Elaine July 5, 1991. Elaine retired from Lufkin Rule in 1969 after 16 years of service. She then worked for the United Way for a few years. She also played the accordion in a band called Elaine and the Saddle Horn Trio. Elaine leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter-in-law Julie (George) Barrett, five grandchildren; Dennis (Sandra) Carey, Terianne Carey, Kathy (J.R.) Clauss, Larry D. Carey, and Lori Helmkamp, 12 great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Deloris Schmidtke and Violet Jean, and a great granddaughter Alisha Carey. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cartwright Hospice Residence for all their loving care during Elaine's stay. Rev. Carl Otto will officiate a memorial service on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S. M-47). Private inurnment will take place. Friends are welcome to gather with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial offerings are suggested to the Cartwright Care Center or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Saginaw.
