Bruns, Shirley M., Saginaw, Michigan

Our Mom was welcomed into Heaven after a 10-month battle with cancer on August 25, 2014. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by all of her family. For seven straight days the family was there for her at her side. Special thanks to Shirley’s daughter-in-law, Ashley, for keeping Mom comfortable throughout her last few days until her passing, also to four special family members, Megan, Sage, Glen and Brett. We know she was embraced in Heaven by our Savior Jesus Christ. Mom was there for us whenever or wherever we needed her. Throughout our lives she was there cheering from the sidelines at all of our sporting events or whatever we participated in. She loved spending time at the U.P. cottage and visiting with friends and relatives. Mom was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She loved all of them with all of her heart, and they loved her just as much. She will be missed dearly. On May 28, 1955, Shirley Mae Fries was married to John A. Bruns at St. James Lutheran Church in Saginaw. They had shared a loving 59 years together. John survives her. She is also survived by her three sons and their spouses, Jay (Kimberly) Bruns; Michael (Ashley) Bruns; James (Karen) Bruns; her loving grandchildren, Michael, Kacey, Jacob, Madison, Kenneth, Kristin, Rachael and James; brother, Ron (Sally) Fries; sisters, Margaret (Ray) Piwowarski and Sharon (Larry) Lacy; also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Duane Fries. A private family committal service will take place at a later date in Spaulding Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Michigan. Memories and sympathies of Shirley may be shared with the family on her memorial website at
