Birnbaum, Rev. David T., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Age 60 years. The son of Theodore and the late Betty (Finger) Birnbaum was born September 18, 1953 in Saginaw. As a business entrepreneur in 1982, he sensed the call of God on his life for ministry. He attended Seminex Seminary in St. Louis, MO and served internships at churches in Titusville, FL and Lexington, SC. He graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC in 1985, and then received his first call to Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hartsville, SC, where he served as pastor until 1993. David received a second call to Grace Lutheran Church in Saginaw, where he served as interim pastor from March 2001 until April 2003. He then served as pastor from April 2003 until November 2012. David married Cynthia Coyer January 18, 2008. She survives him. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. David loved his grandchildren, and also had a love of all animals. Surviving besides his father Theodore and his wife Cynthia, are two brothers; Brian (Nancy) Birnbaum and Ted (Cynthia) Birnbaum. He is also survived by two sons and four daughters; Brian (Fawn) Gielczyk, David (Carrie) Birnbaum II, Brooke Rogers, Ashley (Paul) Eldredge, Megan Barnard, and Sarah Patterson. Also, five grandchildren; David, Paul, Bryce, Alexandra, and Matthew, and many other loving family members. David was predeceased by his sister Cheri Lynn Warren. Rev. Mark Buckert will officiate the funeral service Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Road. Friends are welcome to gather with the family on Thursday, September 4 at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S. M-47) from 12:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour before the service. Memorial offerings may be made to the discretion of the Birnbaum family.
