Baumgardt, Marvin C., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 87 years. Marvin was born May 21, 1926, in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Emil and Esther (Klaiber) Baumgardt. He married Lois Joyce Lea on September 5, 1953, in Saginaw, where she predeceased him on November 24, 2003. Prior to his retirement, Marvin was employed as a sales rep. in the food industry. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatres, was honorably discharged from the 24th Inf. Div. as a Tec 4, receiving two bronze stars and C.I.B. Marvin was a life member of the Combat Infantry Association and V.F.W. Post #7542 of Birch Run; Saginaw Lutheran Veterans Organization; Region III Chief of Y Indian Guides; past Vice President of the Association of Bakers of Eastern Michigan; YMCA; had been an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run, where he had served on various boards, including past President of the Men’s Club, Sunday school teacher, choir, usher and elder. Surviving are one son, Marc L. (Debra) Baumgardt of Indiana; three grandchildren, Matthew, Heather and Magan of Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and David Baumgardt, Jasper Groves, Hunter Davis; in-laws, Bill (Liz) Lea of Chesaning, Janet (Lewis) Carr of Arizona; two God-children, his nephew, David Lea of Owosso and Julie Field of Davenport, Iowa; also several other nieces and nephews; dear friends, Bill (Fran) Mead, Bill (Tracey) Mead of Saginaw. Marvin was predeceased by his parents, wife, twin sister Marjorie Bassett and his brother Paul Baumgardt. In accordance with Marvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place. His inurnment will follow at a later date. Marvin’s military honors memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. Post #7542, 11325 Dixie Hwy, Birch Run.
