Andrews, Joseph P., Saginaw Township, MI, Formerly of AuGres, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 86 years. The son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Somerfeld) Andrews, Joseph was born March 19, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Marceline M. Shustock on May 8, 1948. She predeceased him Dec. 18, 2010. Joseph was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grand children and frequent casino visits. Joseph spent many hours supporting the Boy Scouts of America, achieving scoutings highest honor, the Silver Beaver award in 1974. Being a meticulous carpenter, he built the family’s original home when he was 20 years old in South Saginaw, and did a complete renovation of the home in AuGres. Joe was proud that he was a member of the Saginaw High School state champion football team in 1946, playing for the late Larry Laeding, and Bob Devaney. Joseph was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus #7717 in AuGres, MI. He retired from Michigan Bell Telephone in December 1983. Surviving are four sons, two daughters and their spouses, Michael and Mary Fran Andrews, Midland; David and Mary Andrews, Saginaw; Daniel and Tammy Andrews, Lexington, KY; Dennis and Molly Andrews, Saginaw; Kristine and William Hartl, Saginaw; Kathy and Troy Moore, Hemet, CA; Joe also leaves 15 grandchildren, two step grandsons and 13 great- grand children; three sisters and one brother in-law, Patricia Hoerauf, Midland; Kathryn Nowicki, St. Helen; Maryellen and Larry Slominski, Saginaw; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sordyl, Flint; many nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by one brother and one sister, Robert Andrews and Betty Melzo, a grandson, Christopher Peterson, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Casimir and Sophia Shustock, brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Donn Hoerauf, Conrad Nowicki, Ferris Melzo, Robert Sordyl, Patricia Andrews, a niece, Julie Horupa and a nephew, Bruce Ferman. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Nursing Staff at both St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center, Neuro ICU, and HealthSource Saginaw, for their extra-ordinary loving and compassionate care during his final weeks. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Honoring Mr. Andrews wishes cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
