Amrhein, Clifford LeRoy, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, under hospice care at his daughter’s home. He was born in Bay City on April 11, 1935, to the late Henry and Irene (Schroer) Amrhein. He was a graduate of Bay City Central High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served as a naval photographer. On February 1, 1986, he married Barbara (Slaggert) Amrhein. They were married 28 years. Surviving besides his wife are his children and their spouses: Scott (Karen) Amrhein; Sheryl (Jay) Kiscadden; John Sonefeld; Sue (Ken) Wahrman; Jenny Altensee; and Marty Sonefeld. Grandchildren Lauren and Justin Amrhein; Joshua and Zachary Kiscadden; Ashley and Max Sonefeld; Benjamin, Jonathan, Kenny, Anna, Andrew, Nathan, Aaron, Jenna, Amy, Adam and Mia Wahrman; Traci (Jon) Nestor and Joshua Frye; Blayne, Sam and Quynn Sonefeld; and great-granddaughter Elliana Nestor. Also surviving are his cherished brother, Kenneth Amrhein, brothers-in-law Robert Schrader and Dave (Lynda) Slaggert, his first wife Carolyn (Bollenbacher) Smith and her husband Charles, and special friends Hannah House and Nancy DeBarr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Priscilla Schrader. Cliff served as a Midland Police Officer in the 1960s. He worked for many years for Alden Dow and retired from the Alden B. Dow Archives. He designed and built numerous hands-on science exhibits, which traveled throughout the country. He began watercolor painting in the mid 1960s and is widely recognized for his accomplished artwork. His paintings have been included in many state and national exhibits and competitions. Honoring Mr. Amrhein’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), in Saginaw. Pastor Don Dinninger will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
