Alfano, Catherine, Saginaw, Michigan

Devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 90 years. The daughter of the late Peter and Lucia (Rubino) Ventimiglia, Catherine was born April 29, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan. She married Raffarel J. Alfano on May 22, 1944. He predeceased her January 2, 2010. Catherine was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a past member of the League of Catholic Women. She was employed at Kroger as a cashier for 20 years until her retirement. Catherine was a member of the Sons of Italy and the “Grandma Club”. She enjoyed reading, watching sports and loved spending time with her family. Catherine gave her heart to everyone she came in contact with. Surviving are three daughters, one son and their spouses, Amelia and Christian Reer, Nicholas and Nancy Alfano, Lucia and Thomas Woods, Kimberly and Michael Restifo, all of Saginaw; 11 grandchildren, Marc (Jill) Rummler, Natalie (Phil) Martin, Mark Greer, Lindsay (Paul) Rebholz, Anthony (Jennifer) Alfano, Matthew (Missy) Alfano, Nicholas (Nataly) Alfano, David (Jenna Ulicki) Alfano, Erica (Lucas) Elsie, Aaron Briedenbach, Michael Restifo II; 12 great-grandchildren with another angel on the way; many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by Joseph, Charles, Salvatore Ventimiglia, Lena Alfano and Mary Poma. Catherine’s family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the Frecenius Dialysis Center and Active Community Nursing, Dr. Andrew LeFleur and Dr. Claudia Zaharek for their loving and compassionate care. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Family and friends will pray the Rosary 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
