Wachowiak Sr., Duane A., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013. Age 80 years. The son of the late Anthony and Martha (Peplinski) Wachowiak, Duane was born June 20, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Joan Fogelsong, his loving wife of 57 years, on April 23, 1955. She predeceased him September 29, 2012. Duane was employed as a draftsman at General Motors Corp. for 31 years until his retirement in 1983. He was then employed at Enterprise Rent A Car for 10 years. Duane was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Society for Automotive Engineers. He also served on the St. Mary’s High School Athletic Association and the Saginaw High School Class of 1955 reunions. He enjoyed woodworking, going to the casinos, playing cards, camping and fishing. Duane would do anything for anyone and will be remembered for his thoughtfulness and generosity. Surviving are three daughters and three sons, Patti and Mark Taylor, Escanaba; Fr. Duane Wachowiak Jr., Hemlock; George and Brenda Wachowiak, Olmsted Falls, Ohio; Madelyn and John Boelter, Orlando, Florida; David and Susan Wachowiak, Saginaw; Amy and Dennis Jones, Saginaw; “adopted son”, Gary Findlay and his partner John Coates, Whitemore Lake; eight grandchildren, April (Marty) Turner, Trista Stephens, Amanda, Matthew, Phillip and Peter Wachowiak, Nicole and Samantha Boelter; six great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Gretchen, Kirsten, Brooklyn, Austin and Megan; a sister, Kathryn Arindaeng, Bloomfield Hills; two sisters-in-law, Lynn Ann Branch, Saginaw; Georgia (Jake) Kessler, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael, and by three sisters, Dorothy Mason, Grace Leichner, and Mona Ware. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Duane’s son, Rev. Fr. Duane A. Wachowiak Jr. will officiate. Honoring Mr. Wachowiak’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
