Vieau, Kathryn Shirley, Saginaw, Michigan

Loving mother and grandmother passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth. Age 91 years. Eldest daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose (Kinna) Humphrey, Kathryn Shirley Humphrey was born May 25, 1922 in Cheboygan, Michigan. She graduated from Cheboygan High School. Shirley moved to Detroit during WWII to work, returning to Cheboygan at the Wars’ end. Shirley was married to James David Vieau in 1948 in Cheboygan. They moved to Bay City and then to Saginaw. Shirley worked for the Cheboygan Tribune, as a bookkeeper in Detroit during the war, and retired as the librarian at Westdale Elementary School after 25 years with Saginaw Township Community Schools. She was a kind and gentle soul with never ending patience. Soft spoken, Shirley enjoyed a long retirement with summers at their cabin in Topinabee, MI. When her health made it impossible to live in her home, she resided at the Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. There she helped her caregivers in any way she could, often folding towels and sorting papers. Her husband, Jim passed away March 2, 2013. He had been her constant caregiver for the past ten years. She leaves three sons and a daughter, James David II (Jan, Saginaw; Duane (Louanne), Houghton Lake; Richard (Sandra) Saginaw; Dianne (John ) Hoffman, Kaleva; six grandchildren, Marc Vieau, Cadilac; Kevin Vieau, Saginaw; Kelly Vieau, New York; Lisa (Charles) Stadler, Frankenmuth; Nathan (Sarah) Hoffman, Grand Haven; Erica Vieau, Saginaw; two great-granddaughters, Riley and Reagan Stadler, Frankenmuth; three sisters, Barbara Anderson, Levering; Donna (Carl) Robinson, Saginaw; Charlene Taylor, Petosky; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Reverends Duane and Dorothy Thon will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to time of service .Burial will take place in Mullet Township Cemetery on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Lutheran Home of Frankenmuth or Westdale Elementary School.
