Schaper, Alton, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his home. Age 76 years. The son of the late William and Lillian (Fritz) Schaper, Al was born on April 14, 1937 in Owendale, Michigan. Al served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Al married Denise Marie Maxwell on June 21, 1958. She predeceased him on August 19, 2003. He then married Jeaneen (Brissette) Kuschinsky on September 3, 2005. She survives him. Al worked at Malleable Iron for 28 years retiring in 1994. In his younger years, Al was a Golden Gloves Boxer and had competed in two state finals. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also was an avid sports fan, especially watching his grandchildren play sports. Al was honored as a Saginaw “Everyday Hero” in 2005. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Surviving besides his wife Jeaneen are two daughters and one son, Pam Jackson, Saginaw; Laura and Todd Groening, Saginaw; Steve and Terri Schaper, Saginaw; step-children, Jeremy and Allison Broihier, Largo, Florida; Travis and Nicole Broihier, Kaneohe, Hawaii; Ashley Broihier, Saginaw; 11 grandchildren, Alyssa, Cassie, Matthew, Seth, Mac, Nichole, Denny, Haley, Aeros, Isabella and Lilly; three great-grandchildren, Amya, Anthony and Jimmy; a sister-in-law, Bernadine Pepera; several nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and William Schaper. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at noon at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. John R. Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #1566. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. The family will share memories of Al at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
