Schaitberger, Ruth (Schoenheit), Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Age 94 years. Ruth was born September 29, 1919 in Saginaw to the late Albert C. and Ella (Brechtelsbauer) Schoenheit. Ruth was baptized October 10, 1919 at St. John Lutheran Church, Amelith and confirmed her faith May 13, 1934 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Saginaw. She was married to Howard J. Schaitberger, Sr. for 56 years. He predeceased her in 1997. Ruth was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Peace Ladies Guild and was the "Song Lady" in the Sunday school. She also helped with vacation bible school, Telecare, and was a Catechism Catechist. Ruth was also active in Project Compassion, volunteered at Luther Manor, and was a writer in braille for the blind. She was the secretary of Weiss Elementary School for 23 years and was very active and held various offices in the Saginaw, state, and federal education associations. She received the National Professional Education Secretarial Certificate. Ruth enjoyed flowers, painting on stones and plates, knitting, the Lake Leelanau area of Michigan, and riding her fuchsia 3-speed bike all over Saginaw County. She resided at Shattuck Manor in 2003, later moved to Meadow View Manor, and then to Saginaw Geriatrics Home where she resided for the past four years due to Alzheimer's dementia. Surviving are one daughter Judith Hillman, two grandchildren; Russell H. (Shawn) Hillman and Lisa R. (George) Klement, six great grandchildren; Emily, Megan, and Mekaela Hillman, and Rachel, Rebecca, and Zachary Klement, a sister-in-law Ethel Weyh, and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved son Howard J. Schaitberger. Jr., sister Eleanor Schoenheit, brothers Marvin and Carl Schoenheit, step-mother Otillia Schoenheit, son-in-law Pete Hillman, sisters-in-law Dorothy Oeder, Rosella Daniels, and Marjorie Schoenheit, and father- and mother-in-law Joseph and Louise Anschuetz Schaitberger. Funeral and committal service will take place on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Rev. C. William Weis will officiate. Interment will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
