Portner, Frederick “Bob”, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Covenant HealthCare. Age 88 years. The son of Frank and Mary (Hamling) Portner, Fred was born on May 1, 1925 in Saginaw, MI. He married Helen L. Vadovich on December 14, 1946. She predeceased him on June 15, 2010. Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII. Bob was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a Mill Assembler for A.T. Ferrell 37 years. Surviving are two daughters, two sons and their spouses, Jenny Gielczyk, Cathy (Vincent) Buggia, Thomas Portner, all of Saginaw; Dan (Diane) Portner, Garden City, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother Frank Portner, Jr., Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by two daughters, Sally Portner and Susan Ketterman, and a brother, Carl Portner, Sr. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. John Bartnik and Staff for the many years of compassionate care. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. John Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps and V.F.W. Post #1859. Friends may call at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
