Martzowka, Verne W., Saginaw Township, Michigan


Passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Saginaw Geriatrics Home. Age 83 years. Verne was born on February 8, 1930, in Saginaw, to the late Julius and Ruth (Blake) Martzowka. He married Marie L. Porlas on May 3, 1958, in Saginaw, where she predeceased him on December 20, 1995. Verne had served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement on August 1, 1981, he had worked at GM Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 3 for 32 years. Verne was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and had served on various boards. He was a passionate old car collector and restorer. Surviving is his son, John Martzowka; brother Neal Martzowka and his wife Carol; sister, Kaye Ruth Anderson; sister-in-law, Jeanette Klein; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Porlas; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother-in-law, Dick Klein. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m., then at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
