Lewis, John W. (Bill), Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Luther Manor. Age 73 years. John was born on April 20, 1940, in Fort Dodge, IA, to the late Clifford and Grace (Greenfield) Lewis. He married Deann (Dee) L. Diener on June 20, 1964, in Pigeon, MI, and she survives him. John served in U.S. Marine Corps. John had worked as a journeyman at Eaton Corp for over 30 years. He served the Union as a line steward, skilled trades steward, chief steward, also was on the Union Bargaining Committee. John enjoyed bowling, golfing, camping, and figure skating. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge #82, United Paper Workers International Union, Saginaw Labor Council Rep., and the Midland Figure Skating Club. Surviving besides his wife, Dee, is a daughter, Jodi (Eric) Kittel, Elmhurst, IL; two granddaughters, Grace and Hope; sister, Irene Peck Keeper, of IA; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Ronald (Judy) Diener, Temperance, MI; and Dennis (Carol) Diener, Pigeon, MI; many nieces and nephews and a dear cousin, Marilee (Toodie) Lawler. He was predeceased by one sister and two brothers, Vera Peck Nissen, Edward Peck and Daniel Lewis. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859, Carrollton/Zilwaukee. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Friday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or School, or Valley Lutheran High School.
