Laundra, Charles (Chuck/Chas), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved partner, father, grandfather, uncle and brother passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence at age 79. The son of the late Harold and Alma (Schrems) Laundra, Charles was born November 11, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1951. Charles served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the London School of Dramatic Art and the American Theatre Wing (NYC). He married in 1956 and, after earning a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in 1963, he taught English at Bridgeport-Spaulding High School and then at Douglas McArthur High School in Saginaw Township where he raised his family. In 1968 he accepted a field entertainment directorship for the US Armed Services and took his family abroad for three years to Bamberg, Germany. As a high school English and speech educator, he directed two high school theatrical productions every year and nurtured many students’ interests in the arts. He was a lifelong avid participant/supporter of Pit and Balcony Theatre and performed many roles both on and offstage, performing also at the Midland Center for the Arts. He was a gifted and talented man who enjoyed a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Surviving besides his partner, Michael Mercer, are his children, JoEllen Ennis, Saginaw; Bridget Laundra (Greg Meier), Ann Arbor; Steven (Cari) Laundra, Blissfield; their mother, Anne Kraft Laundra, Saginaw; two grandchildren, Chelsea (Tyler) Wyse and Brittany Laundra and her fiancé Corey Melinn; a great-grandson, Desmond Wilson Wyse; a sister, Margaret (Robert) Bieszka, Belmont, MI; two brothers, Jack (Karen) Laundra, Runnemede, New Jersey; Bob (Jeri) Laundra, Buckeye, Arizona; sister-in-law, Beverly Laundra, Highland, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Bob Hudson, Saginaw; David Kraft, Normal, Illinois and Ed and Christine Kraft, Bloomington, Illinois; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bill Ennis; two sisters and two brothers, Mary Jo Hudson, Kitty Ristau, Richard Laundra and Thomas Laundra; his in-laws, Ted Ristau, Kathy Laundra, Catherine “Kate” Laundra, Rosemary Kerber, Jerry Kerber, Deborah Kraft and Ann Kraft and three nephews, Tony Laundra, Michael Laundra, and Raymond Kraft. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. William Rutkowski will officiate. Private entombment will take place in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present Sunday from 12:00-6:00 p.m., and at the church Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass. A vigil service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
