Hoffman, Richard D. (Dick), Freeland, Michigan

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his home. Age 81 years. The son of the late Leonard and Luella (Gagnon) Hoffman, Richard was born January 31, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Ursuline Balewicz, his loving wife of 58 years, on May 28, 1955. She survives him. Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #439. He was employed at General Motors Corporation for 40 years until his retirement in 1997. Richard was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Muskrats Club of Bay City and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved being with his family. Surviving besides his wife Ursuline are three daughters and their spouses, Connie Kerr, Delvin, Wisconsin; Jill and Scott Thompson, Freeland; Cathy and Darwin Eschenbacher, Freeland; eight grandchildren, Misty, Brandon, Alan, Brittany, Katlin, Leslie, Joseph and Wyatt; twin great-grandchildren, Tyson and Hudson; two step-brothers, Danny Gnirs and Richard (Joanne) Gnirs; several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hoffman, and by one step-brother, Keith Gnirs. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland. Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate with entombment in Chapel Hill Mausoleum. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland where the family will be present of Friday from10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
