Greko, Leona G., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother and grandmother passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at her home. Age 88 years. The daughter of the late Elva and Edith (Crites) DeJournett, Leona was born March 23, 1925 in Marion, Illinois. Leona came to Michigan from Illinois in 1943 during the war effort and received training at the University of Michigan. She married Edward A. Greko on September 4, 1948. He predeceased her November 28, 1986. Leona was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed her dog, Sadie, square dancing, golfing, bowling, camping and working in her garden. Most of all, Leona cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Surviving are two daughters and one son, Marcia Greko, Saginaw; Kathleen and Michael Ray, Saginaw; Thomas and Michelli Greko, Saginaw; three grandchildren, Eric Ray, Ami and David Greko; two brothers and three sisters, Loren DeJournett, Robert DeJournett, Barbara (Ronald) Wilson, Ruth (Paul) Wilson and Betty (Glen) Catron; a sister-in-law, Lois DeJournett; several nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by a son, Karl Greko, and by a brother, Carl DeJournett. Leona’s family extends their gratitude and appreciation to Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre for the loving care they gave to her. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
