Dartey, Josephine (Grandma Josie), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Covenant Healthcare Harrison. Age 84 years. The daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Bukowski) Maliszewski, Mary Josephine was born January 1, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Curtis E. Dartey on November 6, 1948. He predeceased her August 10, 1991. Josephine was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Josephine was involved in foster grand parenting at Stone Elementary School through the Saginaw Commission on Aging. She enjoyed music and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are four daughters, four sons and their spouses, Jeanne (Earl) Swank, Saginaw; Vicki (Reginald Cooper) Dartey, Saginaw; Dean Dartey, Houston, Texas; Annette Dartey, Saginaw; Darrell Dartey, Saginaw; Duane Dartey, Saginaw; David Dartey, Saginaw; Lisa Atkinson, Saginaw; David Reyes, Saginaw; 16 grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle), Shane, Alissa (Kevin), Jason, Jamie (Heidi), Danielle (Noel), Andrew, Abby, Megan, Zack, Branden, Cassy (Justin), Cortney, Nicholas, Jacob and Joshua; 13 great-grandchildren, Riley, Charlotte, Miranda, Tayloranne, Andrew, Cody, Maddie, Jamie, Robert, Raquel, Michael, Machaela and Zoey; one sister, Eleanor (Frank) Olszewski, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cory Dartey and Reginald Cooper, one great-granddaughter, Laila, and by three sisters and three brothers, Theresa Maliszewski, Irene Reinke, Genevieve Ellis, Leonard, Bernard and Joseph Maliszewski Jr. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Dartey’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. and at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
