Claus, Mary E., Hemlock, Michigan

Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2013 following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease.) Age 63 years. Mary Emily Borm was born September 11, 1949 in Saginaw to the late Albert and Eleanor (Tank) Borm. She graduated from Freeland High School in 1967. She married Harry Claus April 7, 1978. He survives her. They recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock, where she helped to organize the chicken and fish dinners and the greeter program. She owned and operated Santa's Playland Daycare for 34 years, where her daycare children would call her "Mimi." For over 20 years she and her daycare children would make and send cards to shut-ins and veterans for various holidays. Surviving besides her husband is her only child Shelley (Thomas) McNeil, two special grandchildren Trevor and Emilie, two brothers Charles Borm, Phoenix, AZ and Jim Borm, Shorewood, IL, and many loving family members and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. The family would like to thank Mary's dear friends Alice, Barb, Red and Thana who became her caregivers the last few months of her life. They would also like to thank Mary's VNA nurses and Katie for their compassion. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2440 N. Raucholz Road. Rev. Dr. William Morris and Rev. Richard Mundt will officiate with burial to follow at Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S. M-47), on Wednesday, May 29 from 1:00-9:00 p.m., and at the church on Thursday one hour before the service. Memorial offerings are suggested to Covenant VNA Hospice, St. Peter Lutheran Church, ALS of Michigan, or the charity of choice.
