Cavendish II, Dr. John W., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and dedicated physician passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Covenant HealthCare Cooper. Age 72 years. The son of the late Harley Watson and Madge (Woolwine) Cavendish, Dr. Cavendish was born August 4, 1941 in Rainelle, West Virginia. He was previously married to Esther Grace Charcandy. Dr. Cavendish later married Bonnie L. Bridge on December 20, 1987. She survives him. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University in 1963. Dr. Cavendish then graduated from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969-1971 where he served as Captain in the Army Medical Corp. Dr. Cavendish began his private practice in April of 1972 and opened his own practice in 1985 until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Saginaw Academy of Family Practice, Michigan Academy of Family Practice, American Academy of Family Physicians, Saginaw County Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Dr. Cavendish was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He also traveled to Guatemala with Impacto Ministries. Dr. Cavendish also served Habitat for Humanity. Dr. Cavendish was a member of Salina Pioneer Masonic Lodge #79 F&AM. Surviving besides his wife Bonnie are two sons, two daughters and their spouses, John W. Cavendish III and his wife Cheryl, Dimondale, Michigan; Grayson Paige and Tammy Cavendish, Saginaw; Jennifer and Jason VanSumeren, Howell, Michigan; Elian and Joe Fichtner, Freeland; 10 grandchildren, Lainey, Blythe, Delia, Quinn, Chandler, Emerson, Cessaly, Elliott, Kassidy and Kennedy; three step-children, Mark and Kelly Bridge, Matthew and Vanessa Bridge, Nikki and Rick Herren; Ryan, Jack, Lexi, Keegan; one brother, Tom and Velma Cavendish, Lucky, Ohio; one niece and one nephew. Dr. Cavendish was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Violet Karis Fichtner. Honoring Dr. Cavendish’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8695 Gratiot Road, Saginaw. Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate. Friends may call at Ascension Lutheran Church where the family will be present on Tuesday from 1:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Fellowship Hall of Ascension Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Ascension Lutheran Church or the Saginaw City Rescue Mission.
