Alward, Arlene D., Saginaw Township, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2013, at her residence. Age 96 years. Arlene was born on February 4, 1917, on the family’s farm in Hemlock to the late Clyde and Lena (Pretzer) Alward. She was Baptized and Confirmed from St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hemlock and then attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Saginaw where she served on the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. She was also a member of LWML, and also volunteered at Bethesda. Prior to her retirement in February of 1982, she worked as a clerk at Ippels for 15 years and then as a bookkeeper at the Saginaw County Controller’s office for over 20 years. Arlene is survived by her niece, Mary Bauer, and great-nephews and great-niece, Todd (Stephanie) Bauer, Matt (Mary) Bauer, and Crystal Bauer. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elda Bauer and Bernice Alward. Funeral and committal services will take place on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court St. The Rev. James F. Krueger will officiate. Private burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m., then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
