Zientek, Linda M. (Gehrcke), Freeland, Michigan


Beloved mother and grandmother passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 64 years. The daughter of the late Charles and Maxine (Rowdon) Gehrcke, Linda was born December 26, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Stanley E. Zientek on August 22, 1970. He predeceased her March 17, 2007. Linda graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Saginaw Valley State College with her degree in Elementary Education. She was a stained glass artist, owning and operating The Solder Joint for many years. She was also a volunteer for the Art Goes to School program through the Saginaw Art Museum. Linda was a member of the Saginaw and Midland Artist Guilds, an active member of the Freeland Athletic Association and the Polish Falcons Nest #124. She was a champion golfer and an avid University of Michigan sports fan. Linda enjoyed dancing with Stan, bowling, traveling, and spending time at the cottage. Most of all, she loved being with her grandchildren and with her dog, Connor. Surviving are one daughter, Stephanie and Derek Peters, Freeland; one son, Nathan and Raechel Zientek, Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Tyler, Cannan, Jacob and Greyson; a brother, David (Diane) Gehrcke, Saginaw; a sister, Jody (Charley) Schnetzler, Alma; two nieces and five nephews and many dear friends. Linda was preceded in death by two brothers, C. Gary Gehrcke and Jeffrey Gehrcke. Funeral service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). The Rev. Daniel Cannon will officiate with entombment in Chapel Hill Mausoleum in Freeland, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
