Winchell, Jean, Freeland, Michigan

Passed away Thursday evening February 23, 2012 at the Caretel Inn in Bay City, MI after a lengthy illness at the age of 89 years. Jean was born in Bethany Twp., Gratiot Co. on February 7, 1923 to the late Niles and Lena (Rooks) Cummings and has resided in this area most of her life. Jean was member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7320 in Merrill/Hemlock and the 83rd Infantry Association for many years. She also enjoyed singing in the Joyce and Friends group out of Colony Cove, FL. and crocheting and travelling. She was also a diamond direct distributor of Amway for many years. On August 13, 1954 she married Bruce E. Winchell; he predeceased her on April 14, 2006. Jean is survived by seven children: Rev. Jean Winther of Mt. Pleasant, David King of St. Petersburg, FL, Thomas (Esther) Winchell of Saginaw, Michele (Joe) Grant of Freeland, Susan (Anthony) Bosley, Detour Village, MI, Kim Winchell of Houston, TX, and Carol Rames of Richfield, OH. Twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive Jean. A granddaughter; Heather Hughes, a great grandson; Justin King-Taljonick, two brothers; Rex Cummings, Keith Cumming, two sisters; Eileen Houghton and Lois Willoughby have predeceased Jean. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Freeland United Methodist Church, Freeland. Rev. Jean Winther will officiate with burial to follow in Westside Cemetery, Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington, Freeland, on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
