Wachowiak, Joan Marie (Fogelsong), Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre. Age 75 years. The daughter of the late Lyndon and Dorothy (Dodge) Fogelsong, Joan was born June 28, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Duane A. Wachowiak Sr., her loving husband of 57 years, on April 23, 1955. He survives her. Joan began her computer career in data entry at Morley Bros. for five years and then at St. Mary’s Hospital for 32 years until her retirement. She was a founding member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Associate Recreation Committee and was active in retiree committees for both Morley Bros and St. Mary’s Hospital and life member of St. Mary’s of Michigan Auxiliary. Joan also served on the Board of Directors at Saginaw Medical Federal Credit Union and the Saginaw High School Class of 1955 Reunion Committee. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Joan enjoyed making and decorating wedding cakes, sewing and seamstress activities, playing Euchre, going to the casino, painting and arts and crafts. Surviving besides her husband Duane are three daughters and three sons, Patti and Mark Taylor, Escanaba; Fr. Duane Wachowiak Jr., Boyne City; George and Brenda Wachowiak, Olmsted Falls, Ohio; Madelyn and John Boelter, Orlando, Florida; David and Susan Wachowiak, Saginaw; Amy and Dennis Jones, Saginaw; “adopted son”, Gary Findlay and his partner John Coates; Chicago; eight grandchildren, April (Marty) Turner, Trista Stephens, Amanda, Matthew, Phillip and Peter Wachowiak, Nicole and Samantha Boelter; six great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Gretchen, Kirsten, Brooklynn, Austin and Megan; two sisters, Lynn Ann Branch, Saginaw; Georgia (Jake) Kessler, Saginaw; a sister-in-law, Kathryn and Dr. Genero Arindaeng, Bloomfield Hills; several nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael, and by a sister, Wanda Turner. Joan’s ever present smile and sense of humor will be missed by all. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church. Joan’s son, Fr. Duane A. Wachowiak Jr. and Rev. Ron Wagner will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Wachowiak’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. Helen Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
