Stenger Jr., William “Pa”, Bridgeport, Michigan


Passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, age 70 years. Bill was born on June 7, 1941 to the late William and Luetta Stenger. He married Lillian Matzke on June 11, 1960 in Birch Run. She survives him. Bill honorably served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962, coming home to continue the family business and expand it into Junction Leasing and Junction Valley Railroad and later the Railroad Hobby Shop. Bill and Lillian were honored as “Distinguished Citizens of Bridgeport” in 1993. He was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Surviving besides his wife, Lillian are a son William (Denise) Stenger III of Bridgeport, 2 daughters, Wendy (Arnold) Chapman of Saltillo, MS, and Wenise Long (fiancé, Douglas Bos) of Birch Run, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by a stepfather, Leonard Weber, 2 brothers, Richard and Gary Stenger, a granddaughter, Emily Long, and son-in-law Daniel Long. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St., and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Gary Bender will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Bill’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
