Spencer, Betty Jo (Taylor)

Was called to the lord on May 29, 2012. Age 76 years. Betty Jo was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to any child in need. Her care for everyone extended to her careers in nursing and education. She unselfishly cared for many family members during her lifetime. Betty Jo was born on August 22, 1935 to Andrew and Hattie (Goins) Taylor in Monroe, Louisiana. She graduated from Saginaw High School and The Michigan School of Nursing. Betty Jo wed Luke Spencer in 1959. Betty was a doting mother to two daughters and one son. Betty also fostered many children over the last fifteen years. Betty Jo moved from Monroe, LA at a young age to Saginaw, MI. She was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital for many, many years. She also worked at Saginaw High briefly. After a brief retirement, Betty worked at Central State Community Services. Betty Jo enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and many other social activities. She was an avid bowler who participated in many leagues around the Saginaw area. Betty was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Saginaw and All Saints Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband Luke; parents, Andrew and Hattie; brother, Willis Taylor; sister, Iola McClendon; brothers-in-law, Clifton and Nathaniel Spencer. She leaves to cherish her two daughters, Kathy Tomasko of Woodbury, MN and Karla Nigussie of Columbus, OH; son, John Veal Jr. (Jaime) of Milwaukee; brother-in-law, Jimmy McClendon of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Levada Taylor of Saginaw; special friends Willis Stuckey and Bessie Martin of Saginaw; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children and friends. A celebration for the life of Mrs. Betty Jo Spencer will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at All Saints Catholic Church, 4060 N. 26th St. Milwaukee, WI. Mass will start at 11:15a.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. Father Carl Diederichs will officiate.
