Smith, Dorothy L. (Henke), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Covenant – Cooper. Age of 94 years. Dorothy Luella Henke was born May 1, 1918, in Pigeon, Michigan, the only child of the late Lucy (Muentener) and Frank Henke. She married Dale E. Smith June 27, 1948; he predeceased her November 16, 1980. She had been employed as a clerk with the Saginaw Township Water Department for several years, retiring in 1980. She had been a member of Tuscola United Methodist Church, where she was the organist. She was formerly a member of First Congregational Church, its Women’s Fellowship and the Bell Choir. She volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, working in the Gift Shop. She enjoyed needlework, playing piano and her Bridge Club. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Smith) and her husband Victor Lord; Pamela S. (Smith) Daleki, all of Saginaw; grandchildren, Nathan, Elissa, Matthew Lord, Christopher and Lauren Daleki. Her family extends special thanks to the staff at Luther Manor for their kindness and care. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at noon at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison St., where her family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Dr. Robert L. Emrich will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
