Smith, Benedict, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities in Bay City. Age 83 years. Benedict was born on July 22, 1929, in Saginaw to the late Vincent K. and Helen P. (Nagy) Smith. He married Kathleen A. Marzluft on May 7, 1955. She predeceased him in 1999. Benedict was employed at General Motors Plant 3, retiring in 1993 with over 30 years of service, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and UAW Local #699. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Surviving are five children and their spouses, Cyndi (Jim) Perry, Bowling Green, OH; Dennis (Denise) Smith, Montrose; Janet (Jeff) Gasper, Chesaning; David Smith, Montrose; Doug Smith, Saginaw; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Arpad Smith, Saginaw; Irene Willets, Ypsilanti; Paula (Larry) Brenner, Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 3680 S. Washington Ave. The Rev. Fr. John Ederer will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where Military Honor Guard will be conducted under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859, Carrollton-Zilwaukee. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Motts Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiology in Ann Arbor.
