Shilling, Diana K., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Age 62 years. The daughter of William Janni and the late Gloria (LaLonde) Janni, Diana was born November 18, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Hal Shilling Jr., her loving husband of 27 years, on October 5, 1985. He survives her. Diana’s first taste of employment was at her father’s family business, Janni’s Market in Birch Run. Later, she went on to work as a fashion coordinator at Jacobson’s in Saginaw. Diana owned and operated Kokomo’s Family Fun Center along with her husband Hal since 1996. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Saginaw Country Club and the Red Hat Society. Diana’s Italian heritage was very important to her. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, modeling, golfing, and traveling. Children and grandchildren were special to Diana and her laughter will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends. Surviving besides her husband Hal are three daughters, Tamara (McLean) Colby and her husband Brad, Westfield, Massachusetts; Heidi (McLean) Portwine and her husband Ron, Bay City; Jeanelle Shilling, Saginaw; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Emily Colby, Nickolas and Cameron Portwine; Diana’s father, William Janni and his wife Vera, Vassar; two brothers and two sisters, Sam Janni, Denise Munson, Jim Janni, Susan and Henry Coats, all of Saginaw; Diana’s father-in-law, Harold Shilling Sr., Freeland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marcia and Tim Bush, Marty and Debbie Shilling, Lynn and Dave Wadsworth, Jed and Nancy Shilling. Diana was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Janni, and by her mother-in-law, Tena Shilling. Diana’s family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Bhrama Sarvepalli, Dr. John Bartnik and his staff, Dr. Timothy Wilson, the Cartwright Hospice Residence and their staff for the loving care they provided. Funeral service will take place on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Buckert will officiate. Honoring Mrs. Shilling’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from noon-8:00 p.m. and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
