Schrems, Elmer Michael, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Wednesday, March 07, 2012, at St. Francis Home. Age 94 years. The son of the late Michael and Margaret (Doerr) Schrems was born April 21, 1917 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Catherine Emma Haggarty, November 12, 1938. She passed away July 14, 2006. He owned and operated Schrems Hardware, with his brother Mike, for many years. He also worked as an electrician, plumber and auctioneer. He was a very active charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he served as a Lector, Usher, Acolyte, assisted with many funerals and as a member of the Men’s club. He also served on several committees with SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and on the Building Committee for Swan Valley High School and as a member of Swan Valley School Board. Elmer called Polka Dances and enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Schrems delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and loved to travel to Florida every winter and spent many summer weekends at Eight Point Lake in Lake, Michigan. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Kay (Russell) Kretz; Tom (Mary) Schrems; Rick (Joanne) Schrems; Connie Duquette; Joan Hayes-Mason and her husband, Bill; his daughter-in-law, Helen Schrems; his grandchildren, Kay Marie (Steve) Gunther; Michael (Renee) Kretz, Karen (Matt) Shuler; Mary Ellene (Henry) Fee; Elizabeth (Mike) Peters; Ron Schrems; Chrissy (Steve) Glodoski; Lynn (Don) McCoy; Brian (Courtney) Schrems; Jeff (Lisa) Schrems; Stacey(Angela Rushlow) Schrems; Sarah Duquette; Ashley Duquette; his sixteen great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Bob Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Katherine Schrems; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald R. Schrems and a grandson, John R. Schrems, and several brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The funeral liturgy will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. David Parsch will officiate with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Friday where a parish Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may then call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
