Scherzer, Verneda Cecelia Louise (Kade), Hemlock, Michigan

Verneda was called home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the age of 89 years. Verneda was born on November 22, 1922, the youngest daughter of William and Augusta (Schultz) Kade. She was baptized and grew up attending Zion Lutheran Church of Iva (Hemlock). She was married to Howard Scherzer on September 10, 1941, and he predeceased her on August 17, 1995. She had been of member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hemlock for over sixty years. Verneda and Howard in engaged in farming at their Fremont Township farm. After Howard’s passing, “Tuesday lunch at Grandma’s” became a tradition. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving family: daughter Faye Lake, Saginaw, grandson Mitchell Lake and Marcy, and their children, great-granddaughter Jessica (Jacob) and their girls, great-great-granddaughters Mallory and Peyton, St. Charles, and grandson Ryan Lake; son Gary and Barbara Scherzer, Hemlock, and their children, grandson Greg and Sara Scherzer and their twins, great-grandchildren Nathan and Hailey, Hemlock; grandson Christopher and Shari Scherzer and their children, great-grandchildren James, Max, and Laryn, Middleville, Michigan; many nieces, nephews and their families. She always looked forward to visits from nieces Shirley (Don) Tessin and June Ziehmer. Verneda was predeceased by her brothers, Milo (Barbara) Kade, Ronald Kade, who passed away at age 8 years, and an infant brother, Martin Kade, who passed away at age 6 weeks; sisters Caroline (Fred) Diener, Elda (Gilbert) Hollingsworth, Zeda (Leonard) Hollingsworth, and an infant sister, Baby Girl Kade, who passed away at birth. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2290 Pretzer Road, Hemlock. Rev. Phil Bigelow will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, and then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
