Purdy, Vern A., Saginaw Township, Michigan

Passed away Sunday September 16, 2012. Age 88 years. Vern Albert Purdy was born December 28, 1923 in Saginaw to the late Marion and Tessie (Strong) Purdy. He married Dorothy Paulson June 24, 1945. She predeceased him May 18, 1966. He married Dorothy J. McFarlane in 1969. She survives him. Vern was a member of First Baptist Church. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a tailgunner and had 26 missions. Vern had been employed as an electrician and retired after 35 years of service. He was also active as a scout leader. Surviving are his son Vern A. (Adele) Purdy, his daughter Cheryl (Jim) Carey, four grandchildren; Mark (Cara) Purdy, Adam (Rhianna) Purdy, Aaron (Karey) Purdy, and Ann Marie (Bryan) Pike, and four great grandchildren; Lauren, Andrew, Ryan, and Olivia. Vern was predeceased by his sister Esther Warner. Funeral service will take place on Thursday September 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (South M-47). Rev. Tucker Gunneman and Rev. Ron Cary will officiate with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be observed at the cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon-8:00 p.m. Memorial offerings are suggested to Beacon of Hope Baptist Church. www.reitzherzberg.com
