Portner, Evelyn J., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 77 years. The daughter of the late Joseph and Olga (Jezak) Wozniak, Evelyn was born November 26, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Frank Portner, her loving husband of 50 years, on May 20, 1961. He survives her. Evelyn was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the League of Catholic Women and the Temple Theatre Organ Club. In her earlier years, she enjoyed roller skating. Most of all, Evelyn loved being with family. Surviving besides her husband Frank are one daughter, one son and their spouses, Karen Leaym and Mark Dumas, Saginaw; Patrick and Deborah Portner, Bay City; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Elizabeth and Matthew; one sister, Susanne and Gerald Horn, Freeland; several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Rita Wozniak, Patricia Wozniak and Gloria Coe. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 545 Mapleridge Road, Carrollton. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Sister Chris Gretka, will take place at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
