Nehmer, Wendell J., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away suddenly Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Henry Ford Hospital at the age of 81 years. He was born August 25, 1930 in Saginaw, the son of the late Julius and Edna (Wittenburg) Nehmer. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the Class of 1948. He had been employed by Means Industries as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1995 after many years of service. He married Marcella G. Schuch on February 17, 1951; she predeceased him September 26, 2008. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He coached Connie Mack baseball for 44 years, and was a scout for the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed all sports, including hunting and fishing. Surviving are five children and their spouses, Nicholas (Debra) Nehmer, David (Erin) Nehmer, Julie (Raymond) Rypstra, Kathy Nehmer, and Diane (Dennis) Vacik; eight grandchildren, Melanie, Jillian, Scott, Sarah, Noelle, Stephanie, Helen and Joseph; five great-grandchildren, Alivia, Emily, Evette, Wyatt and Portia; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and their families. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, William, one sister, Evelyn (Roy) Staples, and one brother, Charles (Luvella) Nehmer. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. David Parsch will officiate. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, where a prayer vigil will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Friends and family may then gather at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
