Mihalic, Joan V., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012, surrounded by family at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper. Age 68 years. Joan Buchanan was born on February 26, 1944 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to the late Lewis R. and Martha J. (Teter) Buchanan. Joan grew up in Grottoes, VA, moving to Richmond, VA after graduating high school where she met and married her husband, Frank, of 46 years. They moved to Frank’s home state of Michigan in 1966. Joan retired from the Buena Vista School District, where she worked as a para-professional. She loved working with children. Surviving is her husband, Frank J. Mihalic; daughters, M. Michele (Justen) Schian, and Melissa J. (Daniel) Durow; granddaughter, Victoria Renee Durow; sister, Nancy A. (Charles) Layman; mother-in-law, Marion Mihalic; brother-in-law, Richard Mihalic; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was also predeceased by two children, Tammy Renee and James Lewis, sister, Carol L. Whitesell, father-in-law, Frank G. Mihalic, and brother-in-law, Ronald E. Mihalic. Joan was a woman of exceptional grace and exuded a positive attitude. She was loved by all who knew her. Funeral and committal services will take place on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. Elder Sue Judd will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.
