Kupres, John, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Monday, February 13, 2012, at the age of 96 years. John was born July 31, 1915, in Wheeler, MI to the late Frank and Anna (Radic) Kupres. John served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He was taken Prisoner of War at the Battle of the Bulge December 1944 and was held captive by the Germans until April 13, 1945. He was a retired asbestos pipefitter. John enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, hunting, reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time up north with his family. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy Fielder of Saginaw and Pauline (Jerry) Kowalski of Toledo; many nieces and nephews; and several extended family members. He was predeceased by his siblings, Sophia (Mike) Glazier, Marian (Steve) Bavkovich, Ann (Bud) Church, Rose (George) Mikek, Frank (Helen) Kupres, and Louis (Mary) Kupres; brother-in-law, George Fielder; and close friend William Fielder. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Fr. John Johnson will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Alma under the auspices of VFW Post 1859. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road, on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will gather at 7:00 p.m. for a prayer service.
