Knoll, Gerald L., Hemlock, Michigan

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on his birthday, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the age of 82. Gerald was born in Bridgeport, Michigan August 14, 1930 the son of the late Ludwig and Elsie (Weber) Knoll. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Hoffmann, May 30, 1952. She predeceased him April 5, 1968. Gerald and his brother-in-law, John Hoffmann were co-founders of Dixie Cut Stone. Gerald later owned Pioneer Landscaping. He enjoyed collecting and reconditioning tractors and Volkswagens and watching the Detroit Tigers. He especially loved spending time with his family. Gerald is survived by five children, Rosalie (Lee) McGregor, Shirley (Ronald) Reed, Deborah (David) Johnston, Frederick (Patricia) Knoll and Thomas (Kimberly) Knoll; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Freida Schiefer. The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at W. L. Case & Company, 201 N. Miller Road. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate with burial in Pinegrove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may visit with the family at the chapel Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Vanessa and Dr. Bryon Chamberlain for the love and care they extended to Gerald in opening their home to him.
