Ihrke, Betty M., Saginaw, Michigan


Loving mother and grandmother passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Age 80 years. Daughter of the late Michael (Harry) and Estelle (Stella) Doyle, Betty was born March 23, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was a 1949 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She was married to Howard W. Ihrke on October 22, 1949. He predeceased her March 28, 2002 and she has missed him every day since. Betty was employed by the Saginaw Township Schools for 20 years retiring in 1980.She was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church, the League of Catholic Women, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary # 439, V.F.W. Post 9809 Ladies Auxiliary and the 40 & 8 American Legion group. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, doll making, her grandchildren and was an avid animal lover. Surviving are one son, one daughter and their spouses, Glenn and Penny Ihrke, Long Beach, California; Toni and Wayne Leblong, Portage, Michigan; four grandchildren, Brad and Leesa Curtis, Veronica Curtis, Kacie and Alain Laforest, Koree Leblong; four great-grandchildren, Hanna, Justin, Kaleb and Finn; and her very special dog, Belle. As her vision and health deteriorated, she was helped by her nieces, Lynn and Shawn and special friends, Carrie, Carol, Lynn and Lois. Also, the kind efforts of a special neighbor and friend, Mike Brown who made it possible for her to remain in the home she loved until the end. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Catholic Church, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at St. Josaphat Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
