Hoffman, Joseph Jay, Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Healthsource Saginaw. Age 87 years. The son of the late Paul Bruno and Lucille Catherine (Smokoska) Hoffman, Joseph was born on February 5, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. Jay served his country proudly as a part of the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. After leaving the service, he met and married the love of his life Betty Mae Moon on June 26, 1948. She survives him. Jay went on to work as a machinist for Wickes Machine Tool where he was a hardworking and dedicated employee for 42 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. In his free time, he volunteered at the Saginaw Community Hospital and was an active member of the Brothers of Koscuiszko Pulaski Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose #82. Most importantly, he loved his family and enjoyed spending every moment that he could with them. Jay will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Surviving besides his loving wife Betty are two sons and one daughter, James and Karen Hoffman, Boise, Idaho; Daniel Hoffman USAF Retired and his wife Shirley Hoffman, Chipley, Florida; Nancy and Kent Munro, Saginaw; his five grandchildren, Katie and Griffin Ferris, Alex Hoffman, Steven Hoffman, Daniel and Jennie Hoffman II, Heather and Daniel Pease; four great-grandchildren, Zoe and Allison Pease, Autumn Ferris, Logan Hoffman, and another angel on the way; his sister Beverly and James Cawley, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson will officiate with entombment in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
