Hernandez Jr., Alex “Big Al”, Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved hubby, daddy/pops, bro, tio, and hampa. was lifted up to the Lord in prayer on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. After two months of hospital stays, he was finally at home where his family gathered daily to surround him with love and tear filled goodbyes. Age 58 years. The son of the late Alejandro and Stella Hernandez, Alex was born October 17, 1953 in Saginaw. He married his love, Julia Santoya on November 19, 1971 in Saginaw. Alex was employed by GM at Malleable Central Foundry for 25 years as a fork lift driver and retired in 1997. He loved riding his motorcycle and hanging out at various bike clubs including Soul Survivors and Hell’s Lovers. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 40 years, Julia Hernandez; his one and only child, Christina Hernandez-Rivera and his son (in-law) Eddie Rivera; one granddaughter and three grandsons, Ciera Alexis Maria Hernandez, Emilio, Cortez, and Eddie Jr. Rivera; two sisters and one brother, Frances Ledesma, Jeanne (Henry) DeLaCruz and Mark Hernandez; Three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; special uncle and aunt, Angel and Josie Hernandez; and cousins, Michael, Belinda, Ralph, Nina, and Jesse; and many nieces and nephews who adored their tio Alex. He was preceded by his father and mother-in-law, Donaciano “Chano” and Ofelia Santoya; grandmother, Frances Ramirez; and sister, Diana Ayala. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Schabel officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Cederberg-Brietzke Fuenral Home, 403 N. Michigan Ave., on Sunday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
