Greene, Joan, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 5, 2012. Age 77 years. Joan was born on March 4, 1935, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ackermann) Schneller. She graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School in 1953. Joan was married to John L. Greene on May 21, 1955, in Saginaw, where he survives her. Prior to her retirement in 2000, Joan was employed in bookkeeping and as secretary for the U.A.W. Local #455. Up until her death, she worked as needed at U.A.W. Local #699. She also worked many years as a union bargaining agent for her union OPEIU #393. Joan was instrumental in negotiating the first contract for the Saginaw County Court office workers. She loved shopping, arts and crafts, doing word puzzles, making new recipe dishes from her collection of cookbooks, watching western movies, also scratching off lottery tickets, sitting with her loving dog, Greta, and family get-togethers, especially being with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Surviving besides her husband John, are three daughters, one son, and their spouses, Robert (Terri) Olk; Thomas (Jacki) Frost; Peggy Reimus, and John J. Greene; four grandchildren, Brian, Steven, Adam and Melissa; one brother, John (Vera) Schneller; three step-grandchildren, Kelly, Sandy, Denise; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Clarence Schneller; two sisters, Theresa Dzrojkoski and Jean Niederquell. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for the loving care they gave to Joan. Joan’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Jack Johnson will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service.
