Glick DDS, Dr. John C., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Sunday evening, July 22, 2012, surrounded by his family at St. Mary’s Hospital. Age 85. Gentle, kind, giving, loving, honest, adventurous, athletic, witty and educated are all words friends and family use when describing John. The son of the late John and Nellie Glick, he was born November 20, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan. John had a joyful childhood and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1944. While at Arthur Hill he was an outstanding athlete, competing in Football, Baseball, and Basketball. After graduating he served with the U.S. Army, stationed in Kyoto, Japan until the end of WWII. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University in 1950. He then studied at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, graduating in 1953, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta International Dental Fraternity. John then established a private Dental practice in Saginaw, MI and had a fulfilling practice for 52 years. The Saginaw YMCA was a big part of John’s life. He joined in the late 1950’s and was an active member for over 50 years, where he practiced the YMCA’s principles of healthy “Body, Mind, and Spirit” and also served on the YMCA Physical Committee. John married his wife, Doerte, from Hamburg, Germany in 1966, after a chance encounter during a ski trip in Europe. She survives him along with his two sons, Eric Glick and Justin Glick. John was a superb award winning athlete, competing in volleyball, tennis, skiing, and paddle ball. He enjoyed his days of skiing up to the age of 83. He was scholarly, loved to read and enjoyed the theater and arts. He never stopped learning. His love of travel gave him countless memories, as he made his way thru 52 countries. In 1969 John and his wife traveled for 22 months extensively in Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. In 1982 John moved his family to Europe for a few years and gave them the experiences of a lifetime. John enjoyed life to the fullest all the way to his last days. In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will hold a celebration of his life on August 27th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Enrichment Center in Saginaw.
