Gabriel, Richard Lloyd, Saginaw, Michigan

For all of his 66 years, Richard Lloyd Gabriel was the kind of man who didn’t say a lot, but when he did, you listened. He had a passion for nature, seeking the quiet stillness of trees, birds and rocks—particularly rocks. He loved collecting them, and he loved collecting coins, knives and duck carvings, as well. Although Richard was a star baseball and football player at Bridgeport High School, he will be less remembered for his competitive spirit than for his kind soul. When it came time to build a pool in his backyard, he wouldn’t do so if any trees had to be destroyed. He wanted to keep nature the way he found it. Richard earned two associate’s degrees from Delta College and was a tool and die maker for General Motors until he retired in 2006. He was proud of his accomplishments, but even more proud of his two children and his beautiful granddaughter. He will be missed by many, including the birds he fed every day. Richard Gabriel is survived by his daughter Lisa Gabriel, son Andrew Gabriel, granddaughter Emma Noelle Gabriel, sister Marcia Largent, brothers Jim (Chris) Gabriel, Dave (Melissa) Gabriel, Chuck (patty) Gabriel and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by two special friends, Diana Histed and Linda Humann. He is predeceased by his sister Sharon Gabriel, brother Tim Gabriel, his parents Lloyd and Irene Gabriel, and his nephew Kyle Gabriel Largent. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Honoring Richard's wishes, a cremation will follow.
