Fager, Willard J. (Pete), Frankenmuth, Michigan

Pete finished the race and won the crown on May 26, 2012. He was born in Custer, MI on October 16, 1916. Pete moved to Saginaw at age four and to Frankenmuth in 1974. He attended Saginaw High and Michigan State, where he medaled in track. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was stationed on Oahu on December 7, 1941. As a member of the American Legion, he proudly sold poppies for many years. Pete married Esther Weiss, who survives him, along with daughter, Sue (Jon) Korpalski of Lapeer and son, Peter J. (Marilyn) Fager of Otsego. He was proud of his grandchildren, Kari (Dave) Ballman, Matthew (Gina) Fager, Kate (Nate) Mutch, and Kyle (Mallory) Korpalski, and great-grandchildren: Ryan, Rachel, and Averie. Pete was the last of nine Fager siblings. He leaves in-laws, Wallace, Lorraine, Louie (Kathy) Weiss and Marion and Becky Fager. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St., and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Joel C. Kaiser will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Pete’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
