Egerer, Marjorie K., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, at Cartwright Hospice Residence in Saginaw Twp. Age 69 years. Marjorie Kay Schade was born on September 26, 1942, in Saginaw, to the late Edward and Evelyn (Wall) Shade. She was first married to Thomas Donaghy; together they had four sons, Steven (Sara) Donaghy, Midland; Scott (Patricia) Donaghy, Saginaw; John (Sherri) Donaghy, Owosso; Eric (Elizabeth) Donaghy, Naples, FL. In 1989, she married Donald Egerer, and added to her family four daughters, Deborah Hoffmann, Saginaw; Dawn Egerer, Naples, FL; Doreen Egerer, Naples, FL; Diane Devers, Anthem, AZ; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she also leaves a brother, Richard (Marcia) Schade; a sister, Carol (Scott) Laramee; a sister-in-law, Susan Schade, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Ormond Schade. Marjorie received her B.S. (cum laude) at Central Michigan University, and her M.S. from Michigan State University. Her teaching career began at St. Josaphat’s, then six years at Jones Elementary, eleven years at Handley School for the Gifted and Talented, Compensatory Education-Reading Recovery, District Staff Development Teacher Trainer and Language Arts Coordinator. She served as President of Saginaw Area Reading Council; presenter at Michigan Reading Council Conferences; Odyssey of the Mind; Executive Board, Author in Residence Coordinator; Executive Board, Saginaw Successful Schools Project; Chairperson of Middle School Implementation Team for Staffing and Scheduling; Delta Kappa Gamma, President of Alpha Group. Her fondest memories were of the parents, students and fellow teachers at Handley School. Marjorie was a member of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Florida Retired Teachers Association, CanAmera, and Saginaw Township North Little League. She also gave piano lessons for many years. After her retirement from the Saginaw school system in 2000, Marjorie moved to Ft. Myers, FL with her husband, Don, and resumed her career in Collier County as a literacy specialist for the whole county. She retired again in 2004, and returned home to Saginaw. Marjorie loved flowers, fishing and her black lab, Babe. Her smile would light-up a room. She will be missed by all who came in contact with her. In accordance with Marjorie’s wishes, cremation will take place. Marjorie’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss, Saginaw. The Rev. Charles F. Buckhahn will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Marjorie will be laid to rest in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Cartwright Hospice Residence.
