Douglas, Jacqueline (Jackie) Darlene, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away on September 30, 2012 at age 85 due to health complications associated with aging; Jackie had limited mobility since breaking a hip. Jackie lived for more than sixty years at Swains Lake in Concord, Michigan. Her passing was in the Carriage House of Bay City, where she was given superb care and treatment in recent years. Jackie was born on May 31, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan where she lived with her parents, Norman and Thelma Ferris in nearby Horton. Jackie was an only child, given much love and support from family (especially her Aunt Edna & Uncle Irvin Luxton and Jack, Flora-Belle and Sharon Bourke) and Horton community members including the Leggetts and Amblers. In 1945, she married Eugene Douglas and had two sons, Christopher (who was born premature in 1950, living only days) and Craig. Douglas Brothers Trucking was the family business, owned and operated by Eugene and brother Claude, employing Jackie, Craig, and a couple of dozen drivers who were treated like sons and brothers in many ways. Jackie proudly served as bookkeeper and would boast about the times she took the wheel of one of the rigs. The business was sold nearly forty years ago, and the marriage ended about ten years later. But these changes did not cause Jackie to change; she remained in her home, with her cats and a circle of friends and neighbors that became increasingly important caregivers, including Beverly and Don Ward, Claude and Joyce Douglas, Ed Cochrane, Fern (Babe) Abram, Fred Krause, Patti Martin, and Mary and Dick Peckham. It seemed that as Jackie's eyesight diminished, people helped out more. Looking back, perhaps Jackie's crowning achievement was her election to the Concord Board of Education in the late 60s. Jackie loved her three Grandchildren, Katherine (Katie) Douglas, Johnathan (John) Douglas, and Christopher (Chris) Douglas very much; she would often reflect upon the times she babysat for them growing up. And grow up they did- now Katie is a Lead Fashion Designer; John is a Rubber Chemist and recently married to his wife, Jessie; and Chris is an Assistant Professor of Economics. Jackie is survived by Craig and his wife, Joan; they reside in Carrollton, Michigan where Craig is superintendent of schools and 30 minutes from where Joan serves as Bush Elementary School principal. Katie lives in Vancouver, B.C., John and his wife, Jessie are in Washington, Michigan, and Chris lives in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison St., Saginaw, officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Emrich and at Horton Cemetery, 6190 Tripp Road, Hanover Township (Jackson County) at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Family will greet visitors at the W. L.
