Dietzel, Robert J., Freeland, Michigan

Passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence in Saginaw Township after a brief illness at the age of 85 years. Bob was born February 4, 1927 in Saginaw, MI to the late Walter and Etta (Iden) Dietzel and has resided in this area all of his life. Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Freeland. Bob attended school at Bethlehem Lutheran and then went on to Arthur Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, served on the Tittabawassee Township Fire Department for many years as well as the township zoning board. He was the Owner/Operator of Myers Oil in Freeland up until his retirement in 1993. Bob was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #7302 in Hemlock/Merrill. Bob also enjoyed travelling, and spent a lot of time at his cottage at Glen Lake. On September 4, 1948 Bob married Lucille E. Myers; she predeceased him on June 13, 2003. Bob is survived by his two children; Roberta Waybrant of Freeland, Vaughn (Cheryl) Dietzel of Saginaw, four grandchildren; Sherry Wheeler, Nick Langeneck, Justin Dietzel, Stephanie Garzon and six great grandchildren; Samantha, Zachary, Ethan, Isabella, Keadon and Mary Kay and a very special friend; Esther Basinger of Saginaw. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Freeland. Rev. Robert G. Schmidt will officiate with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Saginaw. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington St., Freeland, on Saturday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7302 Hemlock/Merrill.
